PITCH TRAINING

 

Stage OneForeground and Background (CD Track 1)

1.  Sing the note you hear on the CD. Let it  fill your mind and body.  Experience matching the note you are singing with the note on the CD. Do this for a very long time each day before you do the next step.

2.  Now keep your attention on the note you hear on the CD and not on your voice.

3.  Now switch your attention back and forth from the note on the CD to your voice, and back to the note on the CD.

 

Stage TwoLouder and Softer (Track 1)

                    1. Sing the note for one minute.

                    2. Now begin to sing the note louder, slowly increasing
                        its loudness (volume). Don't change the note (pitch).

 

       ― Two Long Notes (Track 2)

                    3. As with the previous stages, sing the long notes for a
                        minute.

                    4. Now begin to sing the first note louder, slowly
                        increasing the volume.
                        DO NOT CHANGE ITS PITCH.

                    5. Now sing the second note louder.

 

Stage ThreeMuscle Memory

                    1. Silent Singing: Close your eyes. Form your voice
                        muscles for the two long notes and sing them
                        silently. Try to be very aware of every detail of the
                        changes in the muscles as you change notes.

                    2. Now sing a song silently and be aware of the muscle
                        changes before you silently sing the note.

                    3. Now sing the two long notes being sure to form the
                        muscles before you sing the note. Do not slide into
                        the note. Sing it exactly.

          4. ASR: Attack, Sustain, Release.

 

Stage FourSolfege and Sight Reading (Tracks 3 and 4)

1. Sing Sight-Reading Exercise #1. As you do so be aware of what your voice muscles for each note.

                 

                    2. Now ‘Silent Sing’ the exercise.

                    3. Use hand motions to show the changes in the pitch.

                    4. Now do the same with Sight-Reading Exercise #2.

                

  

Stage Five ―   The Chromatic Scale (Track 5)

                       Sing what you hear.

Stage Six  ―    Random Intervals  (Track 6)

                       Sing what you hear.
